Tigereye: Stone of Protection

The Stone of Protection

Tigereye Dangle Sterling Silver EarringsTigereye, also spelled Tiger’s-eye, is a semiprecious quartz gem with a rich yellow to yellow-brown or brown color and, when polished, produces a fine golden lustre. This beautiful gemstone is mined in South Africa, Australia, Burma, India, and also in California.

Lower levels of iron during the stone’s formation can result in stones with a blue tinge. Maroon forms of tigereye are almost always dyed or heated to create or enhance that shade. Nitric acid is sometimes used to lighten or brighten specimens which are too dark.

Tigereye was chosen by the Egyptians for the eyes in their deity statues to express divine vision, and was believed to provide the protection of the sun and earth combined. Linked to the magical tiger, the king of beasts in Eastern mythology, Tiger’s Eye portrayed courage, integrity and right use of power. Roman soldiers carried it to deflect weapons and to be brave in battle.

Metaphysically, tigereye is said to combine earth energy with light or sun energy, creating an intense stone that’s also well-grounded. Tigereye is said to enhance psychic and empathetic energies, while protecting its wearer with an unblinking eye.
