Garnet is the birthstone for January and is commonly believed to aid in the healing of broken bonds of love. In Victorian times, garnet jewelry was used in engagement rings and other women’s jewelry to mark fidelity in love. The deep, glossy red color of garnet resembles the juicy seeds of a pomegranate, which is perhaps why its name is derived from the Latin word granatum, meaning pomegranate seed.

Though handmade jewelry can be delicate, follow a few precautions and you’ll enjoy it for years! Don’t get it wet, store in a cool / dry location, and avoid surfaces that may scratch the gemstones.
